Parkland Wins, Edges Northampton 7-4

With Parkland holding onto a 1-run lead in the bottom of the 6th inning with two outs and the bases loaded, Adam Schneck drove a pitch into the left-center gap for a double to bring home two key insurance runs for a 7-4 lead.  Tyler Duff then worked one inning of relief in the 7th inning to earn his first save of the year and secure the 7-4 win over Northampton.

The Trojans jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings of play.  In the first inning, Brad Vasilik led off the game with a single and then quickly scored Parkland's first run on an RBI double by Damin Muth into the right-center gap.  Tyler Graeff then singled home a run to make it 2-0.  Left fielder Vasilik led the Trojan offense today going 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI's and a run scored, along with right fielder Jordan Jones, who was also 3-for-4.  Two other players also had multi-hit days at the plate; Muth (2-4, 2B, R, RBI) and Schneck (2-4, 2B, 2-RBI, R).  Graeff (1-2, BB, HBP, R, RBI) and Zach Merkle (1-4, R) each contributed singles.

After Northampton grabbed the lead with four runs in the third inning to make it 4-3, Parkland quickly took the lead back in the bottom half of the third, scoring one run on a wild pitch and then took the lead on a Vasilik RBI single.  On the mound, starter Rhett Jacoby worked 2 1/3 innings, striking out two.  Relief pitcher Alex Flynn, who earned his first varsity win today, came on in the middle of the third inning with two Northampton runners on base and only one out.  Flynn quickly put an end to Northampton's four-run rally in the inning by getting the first two batters he faced to fly out and ground out and strand Northampton's base runners.  Flynn went on to pitch a total of 3 2/3 innings of 1-hit, shutout ball, striking out three, before handing the ball to Duff in the 7th inning.

Senior pitcher Tyler Duff pitched a complete game shutout to lead the Parkland Trojans to a 2-0 victory in their first conference game of the year against the Nazareth Blue Eagles.  Duff scattered five Blue Eagle hits, all singles, while striking out eight.  Duff had Nazareth batters off balance all game with a good mix of fastballs and off-speed pitches.  Parkland's defense behind Duff turned three double plays.  After Nazareth managed to put the tying runs on base in the bottom of the 7th inning with two outs, Duff ended the threat and the game with a breaking ball over the plate for a called third strike.

At the plate, the Trojans struck quickly again in the first innning with an RBI single by Chris Rabasco (1-4, RBI) to give Parkland a 1-0 lead.  The score remained at 1-0 until the 5th inning when Tyler Graeff (1-4, 2B, RBI) doubled down the left field line to bring home an insurance run for a Trojan 2-0 lead.  Both Damin Muth (2-3, HBP) and Jordan Jones (2-3) had multiple hit games to lead the Trojan offense, while Aidan Flynn (1-3) and Hudson Rabenold (1-3) each added singles.
