JV Trojans Defeat Pleasant Valley 12-2

After leaving lead-off batter Adam Mellinger stranded on 3rd base in the first inning, the JV Trojans got the scoring started in the second inning. Ty Conrad reached base on a PV error followed by a Collin Duff (3 for 4, 2B, 3R, 3Rbi) single. The runners advanced on a wild pitch and both scored on a Julian Colon 2Rbi single (1 for 1, 2B, BB, r). Back to back walks by Anderson Hummer and Mellinger loaded the bases with one out. Matt Ervolina reached on fielder’s choice, forcing Colon out at home. Hummer scored on a PV passed ball to complete the scoring in the second inning with a 3-0 lead.

Carson Fracas singled to lead off the 3rd inning, followed by a walk by Conrad. Duff singled driving in Fracas and Colon walked to load the bases. Conrad scored on Mark Leiby’s groundout and Anderson Hummer singled, scoring Duff and Colon. Mellinger walked and Will Algard singled but Hummer was tagged out at the plate after trying to score from 2nd, keeping the Trojan lead at 7-0.

After allowing two PV runs in the 5th, the Trojans battled back in the 6th inning. After back-to-back walks to Ervolina and Algard, Phil Schoch reached on an error to load the bases. Justin Petrisko hit into a fielder’s choice but Ervolina was safe at the plate, keeping the bases full with no one out. Duff doubled, scoring Algard and Schoch, extending the lead to 10-2. For the second consecutive game, Joe Webber supplied the walkoff hit, doubling to score Petrisko and Duff, bringing the lead to 10 to end the game.

Poconco Mountain West (PMW) drew first blood in the bottom of the first, but the Trojans responded in the top of 2nd as Matt Mellinger (1-3, BB, R) singled.  Cullan Wadsworth (2-3, BB, 4R) exchanged places with Mellinger as he hit into a fielder’s choice.  Isaac Neal (1-3, RBI) singled advancing Wadsworth to second.  He then scored the first of his four runs of the day as Adam Smith reached on error.

The 3rd saw Austin Mueller (0-3, BB, R) walk and on an overthrown pickoff attempt advanced to third.  A Tyler Bruno (1-2, 2BB, RBI, R) RBI single put the TROJANS in the lead as Mueller scored.  PMW again tied the game again in the bottom of the frame.

Wadsworth led off the 4th with a single and scored on a series of errors and aggressive base running to put the Trojans back in the lead for good. 

The scoring continued in the 5th.  A walk to Bruno, who stole second and took third on yet another error.  Mellinger walked, stole second, and Wadsworth followed with a base on balls.  Neal then drove in Bruno with a sacrifice fly.  Christian Burgos (1-1, 2B, 2RBI) entered the game as a came off the bench as a pinch hitter and crushed a double to left field scoring both Mellinger and Wadsworth.

The Trojans then completed the scoring in the top of the 7th as Wadsworth again singled, stole second, and after Neal put the ball in play scored on a series of errors.

Ryan Giovenco (7K, 3H, 1ER) started and kept PMW off balance as he worked through the first six innings.  Braeden Duff (2K, 0 ER) closed with a 1-2-3 seventh inning with 2 strikeouts.

The JV team shut out Pocono Mountain West with timely hitting and dominant pitching. The Trojans put up three runs in the first inning after Adam Mellinger got things started with a lead-off walk and Anderson Hummer was hit by a pitch. Dylan Snyder loaded the bases with a single and Will Algard hit a sac fly to get the scoring started. Justin Petrisko capped the inning with a 2 RBI double. Joe Webber’s wheels put him on 2nd base to lead off the 4th inning after a costly error by the PMW outfield. He stole 3rd and beat the throw home on a Mellinger fielder’s choice. Hummer singled, scoring Mellinger to increase the Trojan lead to 5-0. Ethan Russell walked to start the four-run 5th inning. He stole 2nd, moved to 3rd on a passed ball and scored on Sergio Rodriguez’s 2-out RBI single. Mellinger reached on a PMW error and Hummer doubled to score both Rodriguez and Mellinger for a 9-0 Parkland lead. A Dylan Miller double in the 6th inning followed by a Webber RBI single ended the game in a 10-0 mercy. Will Algard hurled the complete-game shutout, allowing just 3 hits, no walks, striking out 8 PMW batters through 6 innings of work. imageimage

TROJANS Roll Past Emmaus on Friebolin's Big Day

The TROJANS defeated their Cedar Crest Blvd rival Emmaus 7-1 on Shirt Off My Back Night.  Mike Jenkins (4H, 6K, 1ER) again pitched well giving up 1 run in six innings of work.  On this day the Trojans bats heated up with Andrew Roth (2-3, 2SB, 2R, BB) leading off the bottom of the first with a single to left.  He stole second and scored when Tyler Bruno (1-2, RBI, 2BB, 2R) hit a laser to centerfield plating Roth to score the first run of the game.  Austin Mueller (0-2, R, BB) walked and Kyle Friebolin (1-2, 2B, 3RBI, SB, R) doubled to score both Bruno and Mueller. 

In the second Roth walked, stole second, and advanced to third on an error.  Matt Mellinger (0-3, BB) walked and Roth scored from third on a wild pitch.

The scoring continued in the 5th when Bruno walked, Cullan Wadsworth (0-4, R) reached on an error which moved Bruno to third.  Friebolin reached on an error, sending Bruno around to score and Wadsworth to third.  Friebolin aggressively stole second with ease.  Ethan Imler (0-3, RBI) grounded to second to score Wadsworth.  John Amato (0-0, BB) walked which sent Isaac Neal (1-1, RBI) to the plate and he singled Friebolin home to complete the scoring.   

Mellinger looked strong as he replaced Jenkins in the seventh, retiring the side in order, strikng out the final batter to seal the victory.
