News and Announcements

The JV Trojans and Nazareth battled to a 1-1 tie through 5 innings of play in a pitchers dual as both pitchers worked in and out of jams.  Starting pitcher Michael Jenkins (7IP, 2R, 6 H, 7 SO, 2 BB, 1 HB) worked a complete game with seven strikeouts for the victory as he kept Parkland in the game, allowing the offense to come through in the 6th inning.

With one out in the 1st inning, Kyle Novobilski (1-2, 2R, 3b, RBI, 2 BB) walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch.  With two outs, Kyle Friebolin (1-2, R, 2 RBI, 2 BB) hit a line drive single to left field to score Novobilski and give Parkland a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the 3rd inning, Nazareth put two runners on first and second with a walk and infield single.  Nazareth attempted a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners, but Jenkins made a nice defensive play, bare handing the bunted ball to get the force out at third base.  Jenkins then induced a ground ball for an inning ending double play to end the Nazareth threat.  Novobilski hit a one-out triple in the 3rd inning, but he would be stranded.

In the 4th inning, the Blue Eagles scored their first run of the game with a lead off triple, followed by a single to make it 1-1. The scored reamined the same until the 6th inning.  Nazareth scored a run in the 6th, when a lead off single followed by a stolen base and ground out put a runner on third base with one out. After a strikeout for the second out, a balk scored the run to give Nazareth the 2-1 lead.  Jenkins ended the inning with another strikeout.

Down 2-1 in the bottom of the 6th inning, Matt Mellinger (0-3, R, RBI, BB) got things going with a lead off walk.  Ben Trinkle (0-0, sac, BB, HBP) put down a perfect bunt to advance Mellinger into scoring position.  Braedan Duff (1-3, R, RBI) singled to right field to score Mellinger and tie the game at 2-2.  Harsha Bollu (0-2, R, BB) walked, which knocked out Nazareth's starting pitcher.  EJ Brandt (0-1, R, BB) followed with another walk to load the bases, and an RBI walk by Novobilski put the Trojans ahead by a score of 3-2.  Ethan Imler (2-4, R, 2 RBI) then singled to left to drive in a run and give Parkland the 4-2 lead.  With bases still loaded, Friebolin collected another Trojan RBI walk.  Austin Mueller (1-3, 2 RBI, BB) drove in two runs with a 2-RBI single.  Still not finished, Mellinger knocked in a run with an RBI ground out for the 8-2 Trojan lead after six innings of play.  Jenkins finished off the combeback victory with a strong 7th inning, striking out the last batter of the game.

On a night when Parkland Trojans Baseball celebrated its seven graduating senior players, senior right-handed pitcher Alex Flynn pitched a complete game, three-hit shutout to lead Parkland to a 4-0 win over Northampton.  With the victory, Parkland clinches a spot in the LVC playoff tournament slated to begin next week.

Flynn was in control the entire game and the Trojan defense made some special plays to keep the Konkrete Kids off the bases.  A lead off Northampton double to begin the 2nd inning was quickly erased by Parkland's defense when the Northampton runner tried to stretch it into a triple.  A perfect relay throw from right fielder Jeff Strisovsky to senior second baseman Gabe Mosser to third baseman Justin Afflerbach who tagged the runner out.  In the 5h inning, Mosser made a diving play on a grounder in the hole between first and second base to rob Northampton of a single.  Flynn was very efficient on the mound, retiring Northampton batters in order five times, he had 8 strikeouts in the game and only one walk, which came in the 7th inning.

Parkland took a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning when senior Brad Vasilik (1-for-2, BB, 2 runs) reached on an error and advanced to second base on a Strisovsky (1-for-2, sac bunt, 2 RBI, run) sacrifice bunt.  Senior Zach Miiller (1-for-2, HBP, RBI) hit an RBI single to score Vasilik.  Parkland's bats were quiet until the 5th inning when Afflerbach (1-for-3, 2B run) got things going with a lead off double.  A bunt single by Vasilik followed by a wild pitch put runners on second and third with no outs.  Strisovsky then singled to drive in both base runners for a 3-0 Parkland lead.  Strisovsky would advance to third base on an overthrown pick off attempt.  Chris Rabasco (1-for-3, RBI) then singled to left field to plate Strisovsky to put Parkland up 4-0.  Alex Flynn (1-for-2, 2B, BB) doubled in the bottom of the 6th inning, but he would be stranded.  Four runs were more than enough for Flynn as he ended the game with strikeouts for the final two outs of the game.

Starting pitcher Braeden Duff (7IP, R, 3 H, 10 SO, 2 BB) hurled a three-hit, complete game with 10 strikeouts to lead the JV Trojans over Northampton by a score of 8-1.  Duff was dominant on the mound, including starting the game by striking out the first three batters he faced.

Parkland struck first offensively in the 1st inning when Ben Trinkle (0-2, R, BB) and Kyle Novobilski (1-3, R, SB) led off the game with back-to-back walks.  A Northamtpon wild pitch allowed them to advance to 2nd and third.  Third baseman Ethan Imler (2-4, R, 2 2B, 2 RBI) then drove a ball to right-center for a 2 RBI double to plate Trinkle and Novobilski and give Parkland a 2-0 lead.  Kyle Friebolin (0-1, 2 R, BB, HBP) then reached base on a walk and Matt Mellinger (1-4) followed with a single.  After a Mike Jenkins (1-3, 2R, BB, SB) fielders choice ground out, Jenkins stole second base to put runners on second and third.  EJ Brandt (2-3, 3B, 4 RBI, R) singled to right for two RBI's and increase Parkland's lead to 4-0.

In the top of the 3rd inning, the Trojans scored three more runs.  Friebolin was hit by pitch and Jenkins walked to put runners on first and second.  Brandt then drove a ball to right field corner for a triple for two more RBI's.  Brandt later scored on a Northampton error to make it 7-0.  The Konkrete Kids get their lone run of the game in the bottom of the 5th with 1 out, after a single and a triple.  Duff got out of the inning by striking out the next two batters to strand the runner on third base.  In the 6th inning, Parkland get the run back, when Imler led off with a double.  Austin Mueller (1-1, RBI) then hit a line drive RBI single to score Imler.

The Trojans bats were not done yet. In the top of the 7th, John Amato (1-2) and Sott Hudock (1-1) both singled, but they would be stranded on base.  Duff finished off his complete game gem by shutting down Northampton in the bottom of the 7th to give Parkland the 8-1 victory.
