News and Announcements

The Parkland Trojans suffered their first loss of the season today with a 6-3 loss to Wilson West Lawn.  Parkland could only manage a total of three hits in the game getting two singles from Hudson Rabenold (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and a single by Chris Rabasco (1-for-3, BB, run).  The Trojan bats struggled to get things going all game and could not get a clutch hit when needed.  Parkland did have their chances to score runs as they put runners on base regularly with six walks and two hit batters, but they would strand a total of 10 runners on base in the game.

Starting pitcher Rhett Jacoby worked five effective innings allowing three runs on four hits, while walking one and striking out four Bulldog batters.  Wilson took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the 3rd inning when the Trojans finally got on the board.  The first two batters of the inning, Brad Vasilik (0-for-1, BB, HBP, sac bunt, run) and Alex Flynn reached base on back-to-back walks.  Rabenold gave Parkland its first base hit of the game with a line drive RBI single to centerfield to score Vasilik.  Zach Merkle then hit a sacrifice fly to plate Flynn and cut the Bulldog lead to 3-2 after three innings of play.  The Trojans tied the game at 3-3 in the 5th inning when Rabasco singled to lead off the inning and advanced to second base on the play when the outfielder bobbled the ball.  After moving to third base on a wild pitch, Rabasco scored to tie the game when Rabenold came through again earning his second RBI single of the game with another line drive to the outfield.

Flynn came on to pitch in relief in the 6th inning and worked a 1-2-3 inning.  The Trojans put the go-ahead run on second base in the bottom of the 6th inning when Jeff Strisovsky reached base safely on a dropped third strike and then advanced to second base on a Vasilik sacrifice bunt.  A walk to Rabasco put runners on first and second base, but they would be stranded with the score remaining tied at 3-3 entering the 7th inning.  Wilson started the 7th inning with three consecutive base hits and would go on to score three runs to take a 6-3 lead into the bottom of the 7th inning.  Flynn pitched a total of two innings allowing three runs on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts.  The Trojan bats went down in order in the 7th inning to end the game with a 6-3 loss.

Posted by John Rabasco at Apr 11, 2014 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
The JV Trojans got off to a rough start in their non-conference match-up against Wilson West Lawn.  After being shut down at the plate in the first inning, shaky defense in the bottom half of the first inning allowed Wilson to score three unearned runs and take the early 3-0 lead.  Starting pitcher EJ Brandt (5 IP, 6 runs (1 earned), 3 SO, 1BB) pitched well trough his five innings of work, but the Trojans defense had its difficulties today allowing five unearned runs to score through five innings.

In the 3rd inning, the Parkland offense started coming around when John Amato (0-2, run, sb) reached base on an error. He then stole second base and Andrew Roth (2-4, 2 rbi, bb, sb) singled to score Amato. Kyle Novobilski (1-3, run) then singled, followed by an Austin Mueller (1-3, run, sac fly, 2 rbi) sacrifice fly to plate Roth. Kyle Friebolin (2-4, run, 2 rbi) singled to score Novobilski and tie the game at 3-3 after 3 innings of play.   The Bulldogs took the lead right back in the 4th inning, scoring three runs on two hits, a walk and another Trojan fielding error.  In the top of the 6th inning, Parkland cut the Bulldog lead to 6-4 when Michael Jenkins (1-3, 2 runs, 1 bb) singled and then advanced to second on a wild pitch.  Pinch hitter Braeden Duff (2-2, run, 2 RBI) singled to plate Jenkins.

Duff (2 IP, run, 3 SO, HB) also came on to pitch in relief in the 6th inning, and worked a total of two innings allowing one run to score in the 6th inning.  With the Trojans down by a score of 7-4 entering the top of the 7th inning, Parkland rallied when Tyler Ilgenfritz (1-3, run, bb) led off with a single followed by a Roth single.   With runners on first and second, Mueller singled to drive in Ilgenfritz to cut the Bulldog lead to 7-5.  Friebolin then knocked in Roth.   Ben Trinkle (1-3, run, rbi, bb, sb) then came to the plate and hit a clutch  RBI single  to tie the game at 7-7.  After a walk to Jenkins, Duff then came through in the clutch again with another RBI single to put the Trojans ahead 8-7.  Duff later scored on an RBI fielders choice by Roth.  The Trojans scored a total of 7 runs in the 7th to make it 11-7. Duff shut down the Bulldogs in the bottom of the 7th to complete the comeback.

Parkland loaded the bases in the 1st inning on two walks and a hit batter.  Hudson Rabenold (1-for-2, RBI, run) drove home the first run with an RBI groundout after Justin Afflerbach (0-for-1, BB, run) and Chris Rabasco (1-for-1, BB, RBI, 2 runs) reached on walks.  After Zach Merkle (0-for-1, HBP, 2 runs) reached base with a hit-by-pitch, Parkland scored runs on a wild pitch and Dieruff error for the 3-0 lead after one inning of play.  The Trojans blew the game open with 10 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning.  Jeff Strisovsky (2-for-3, double, RBI, 2 runs) led off the inning with a deep drive off the left field fence for a double, just missing a homerun.  Brad Vasilik (1-for-2, RBI, run) hit an RBI single to plate Strisovsky and Vasilik would later score on a Rabasco RBI single.  Rhett Jacoby (1-for-2, 2 RBI, run) added an RBI single, Alex Flynn (0-for-0, 2 BB, RBI, run) an RBI bases loaded walk, and Strisovsky collected his second hit of the inning with an RBI single.  Isaac Neal (1-for-1, BB, 2 runs) hit an RBI single in the inning, and Evan McAndrew (2-for-2, 4 RBI, run) finished the scoring in the 2nd inning driving in two Parkland base runners with a single to give the Trojans a 13-0 lead after two innings of play.  McAndrew finished the day with four RBI’s.

In the 3rd innings, Alec Bartholomew (1-for-1, run) led off with a single followed by a Dan Zaccaro (0-for-0, BB, run) base on balls.  After Bartholomew scored on a wild pitch, walks to Neal and Tanner Stufflet (0-for-0, 2 BB, run) loaded the bases.  Zaccaro scored on a passed ball and McAndrew singled again to drive in two more runs.  Harrison Rabenold (1-for-2) would add another Parkland base hit in the inning before the game would end when McAndrew scored on a wild pitch.

Starting pitcher Kyle Novobilski tossed a masterful game giving up one hit and one walk while striking out nine for the convincing victory over Dieruff by a score of 16-0.   Novobilski worked 5 innings in the mercy-rule shortened game and only faced 16 batters in his complete game shutout.

The Trojans offense came alive scoring 16 runs over the course of the 5-ininng game.  Braeden Duff (4-4, 2 doubles, triple, 8 RBI, 2 runs) led the way with an impressive performance at the plate.  Duff got Parkland started in the second inning when he tripled to deep centerfield to drive in two.  Duff also scored on a Dieruff error to put the Trojans up 3-0.  In the 3rd inning, Duff hit a sharp single to left field to score EJ Brandt (0-1, 3 BB, 3 runs)to make it 4-0.

In the 4th inning, John Amato (1-2, 1 R, 1 SB) led off with a single, then stole second.   Kyle Novobilski (2-4, 2 RBI, run) then followed with a single.   After an error, two hit batters and a walk, Duff doubled to score two more runs to put the Trojans up 9-0.  In the 5th,  Parkland scored 7 runs with 2 out when Austin Mueller (1-2, run) singled.   Kyle Friebolin (1-3, 2 runs, HBP) reached base with an infield single, and after two  walks, Duff then doubled with the bases loaded to right field to clear the bases and drive in three more runs. The Trojans were not done yet as Tyler Iglenfritz (2-4, run, RBI) singled, followed by an RBI single by Tanner Vitovitch (1-1, run, RBI) and an RBI double by Kyle Novobilski to end the game for the 16-0 JV Trojan win.
