Higgins Verbally Commits to Indiana

Junior pitcher Connor Higgins verbally committed to play baseball at Indiana University on athletic scholarship.  The Hoosiers play in the Division I Big Ten Conference where last season they debuted their new $20 million dollar baseball stadium, while also winning the conference championship and competed at the College World Series.  Indiana's Coach Tracy Smith was named 2013 National Coach of the Year.  Higgins still has his high school junior and senior baseball seasons to look forward to before joining the Hoosiers for the 2015-2016 academic year.   Higgins plans to major in business.

Connor was recruited by several schools and visited many over the past several months, including Michigan, Virginia Tech, UNC-Greensboro, Pitt, Duke, Penn State, Air Force, and Notre Dame.  In choosing Indiana, Connor "felt very comfortable with the school, baseball staff, academic advisors, students and the program."  His parents agreed.  "After the initial offer, Coach Smith gave me and my family time to visit other schools to make sure IU was the right school for me," Higgins added.  Higgins visited the Indiana campus twice and both times knew it was the right place for him to continue his education and play baseball.

Congratulations to Connor and his family!

Gabe Mosser, Parkland's right-handed pitcher, signed a national letter of intent to play baseball at Shippensburg University on athletic scholarship.  Gabe plans to major in marketing with a minor in business.  Mosser will play his senior year at Parkland this spring and will join the Raiders for the 2014-2015 academic year.  The Raiders play in the Division II Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.

Gabe was also recruited by DeSales, Temple, and Kutztown, but ultimately chose Shippensburg as it was the best overall fit.  "The first time I stepped on campus I felt comfortable and knew it was the school I wanted to spend my next four years at. Ship offered me exactly what I was looking for from an academic and baseball standpoint," Mosser said.  It was a visit with Coach Jones and Coach Sheibley that solidified Gabe's decision.  "Their openness about visiting other schools, how they ran practice, the emphasis they placed on academics and responsibilities outside of baseball, along with the confidence they showed in their program were all the final pieces in making my decision," added Mosser.

Shippensburg Baseball has made an appearance in the Conference, Regional or World Series Tournament 12 of the last 13 years.

Congratulations to Gabe and his family!

Tyler Duff is the 2013 Morning Call Pitcher of the Year, a significant honor that caps off an incredible senior year for the pitcher.  Duff collected a record of 8-0 with two saves and an amazing 1.08 ERA.  His 8 wins ties him for the all-time Parkland school record for most single season wins by a pitcher.   Five of his wins were complete game victories and he pitched two shutouts.  Duff was nearly automatic on the mound all year for the Trojans leading the team to the District XI championship.  In 52 innings of work, Duff struck out 48 and only allowed three extra base hits.  Amazingly, 23 of those innings were 1-2-3 innings.  Duff beat Liberty three times with one of those wins coming in the LVC semi-final game.  He collected key saves over Northampton and Pleasant Valley and beat Whitehall in the District XI championship game.  Tyler will attend Williams College next year where he will also continue his baseball career.

Congratulations to Tyler!
