News and Announcements

Here are some details on the offseason plan for anyone intending to tryout for Parkland baseball in the spring of 2023.

Starting when school starts will be holding Wednesday Night Workouts on the baseball field, weather permitting. These are voluntary workouts designed to introduce/improve on the fundamentals that we will be looking for when tryouts start in March. Players should bring their own helmet and bat to these workouts. Exact times for each Wednesday will be posted on this website and tweeted out via Twitter account @trojansandlot. Postponements due to weather issues will also announced on the website and Twitter. We will divide the group into two groups if numbers get as large as expected. If we do, the groups will be Varsity and JV. Varsity will include all juniors and seniors. It will also include sophomores who played JV last year. JV will be for the remaining sophomores and all of the freshmen. These workouts will continue until the weather turns too cold to be productive.

Starting in October we will start our offseason lifting and conditioning sessions. The sessions will be held at the high school weight room from 7PM-9PM. The sessions will be Mondays and Thursdays starting October 3rd and running through November 17th. The sessions will then shift to Mondays and Wednesdays through January 4th. If players are already working with a trainer we encourage them to include these two team sessions into their offseason plans.

In January we will start our Intramurals in the school’s auxiliary gym. These intramurals are designed to build the players up for tryouts which start March 6th. In the past we have broken the players down into two groups as described above. Varsity and JV. The schedules for each of these groups will be established as we get closer to the end of fall. In the past these workouts have fallen on Monday, Wednesday, Friday in the evening and some Saturdays in the early afternoon. This year’s schedule has not been released by the school. Generally each group (varsity and JV) will come in two days a week.

Note: Players are encouraged to give their arms a break in November and December to remain healthy. The intramurals are designed to account for that.

Also players are encouraged to be multi-sport athletes at Parkland. So if you are involved in a Fall or Winter sport at Parkland it is understood that you will not be able to make these offseason events. That is fine with the baseball coaching staff.

All players interested in trying out this spring should complete this online sign-up form.
