Posted by John Rabasco on Mar 26 2013 at 05:00PM PDT in 2019 Varsity

The Parkland Trojans opened the 2013 baseball season with a convincing 9-1 win over visiting Hazleton.  Parkland batters took advantage of nine walks by Hazleton pitchers along with six base hits, including three doubles, to round out the offense.

On the mound, the Trojans were led by Sophomore starting pitcher Rhett Jacoby. Jacoby worked five strong innings of shutout baseball with impeccable control of the strike zone; striking out four and allowing only two hits and no walks.  The Parkland offense wasted no time getting on the board scoring four runs in the first inning on a 2-RBI double by Sophomore shortstop Chris Rabasco, and RBI groundouts by Senior first baseman Tyler Graeff and Junior DH Hudson Rabenold.  Senior catcher Damin Muth (2-2, 2B, BB, 3R, 2 RBI) led the offense with two hits, including a 2-RBI double in the 4th inning.  Along with Rabasco (1-3, 2B, SF, R, 3 RBI) and Rabenold (1-2, BB, 2 RBI), the offense got contributions from Senior Adam Schneck (1-1, 2B, BB, R) and Senior second baseman Aidan Flynn (1-1, BB, R).  Sophomore relief pitcher Connor Higgins worked two innings on the mound allowing one run.  Next up for the Trojans is the first conference game of the season at Nazareth.
