Season Ends Quickly with 1-0 Loss to North Penn in First Round of PIAA State Playoffs

The Parkland Trojans' baseball season came to an abrupt end today in the first round of the PIAA State Playoffs as North Penn defeated Parkland by a score of 1-0 in a game that lasted just one hour.  Pitcher Gabe Mosser along with North Penn's hurler dominated the game as they both shut down batters inning after inning.  Both allowed only three hits each and there was only one walk in the entire game.

Whereas Parkland hitters scattered their three hits across three different innings, North Penn scored the lone run of the game in the 3rd inning when their leadoff hitter doubled, moved to third on a groundout, and then scored on a single.  Mosser was efficient throughout his seven innings of work.  He amazingly threw first-pitch strikes to 24 of the 26 batters he faced and he had four innings where he set down North Penn hitters in order 1-2-3.  Mosser walked one and struckout three.

Zack Merkle (2-2) was Parkland's lone bright spot at the plate collecting two singles in his only two plate appearances.  Parkland's best chance to score came in the 6th inning when Merkle led off with a single and pinch hitter Aidan Flynn sacrifice bunted Merkle over to second base.  However, Merkle would be stranded at second as the next two hitters hit fly outs.  Parkland's only other hit was by Tyler Graeff (1-3) who singled to lead off the 5th inning, but he was left stranded at first.
