Jacoby Hurls Complete Game, Two-Hitter; Parkland Beats Governor Mifflin

Posted by John Rabasco on Mar 31 2014 at 05:00PM PDT in 2019 Varsity

Junior right-handed pitcher Rhett Jacoby dominated on the mound today tossing a complete game for the Parkland win over highly ranked Governor Mifflin by a score of 7-1.  Jacoby collected his first win of the season allowing only two hits while walking one and hitting two batters.  Governor Mifflin's lone run came in the 4th inning and was unearned due to a Parkland error.

The Trojans put a run on the board in the top of the 1st inning when Chris Rabasco (2-for-3, two doubles, BB, 2 runs, RBI) hit a two-out double to left field.  Hudson Rabenold (1-for-3, BB, 2 RBI, run) then singled for the RBI, scoring Rabasco for the 1-0 Parkland lead.  The score remained the same until Governor Mifflin tied it at 1-1 in the 4th inning.  In the top of the 5th inning, Parkland opened up the game scoring four runs.  Brad Vasilik (2-for-4, run) singled, stole second base, and then with two outs in the inning the Trojans rallied, taking advantage of Governor Mifflin errors and timely hitting.  Rabasco was intentionally walked to put runners on first and second.  The next two Parkland batters reached on errors to score one and put Parkland in the lead 2-1.  With the bases loaded, Alex Flynn (0-for-2, 2 BB, RBI) collected an RBI walk, and then Zach Miiller (1-for-3, double, 2 RBI) drove in a pair of runs with a double down the left field line.

Leading 5-1, Parkland added two more runs in the 6th inning when Isaac Neal (1-for-4, run) singled for his first career varsity base hit.  After a Justin Afflerbach (1-for-4, run) single put runners on the corners, Rabasco hit an RBI double to centerfield to score Neal.  Rabenold followed with an RBI ground out to score Afflerbach.  After allowng a lead off single to start the bottom of the 7th inning, Jacoby retired Governor Mifflin batters in order to complete the 7-1 victory.
