Flynn Complete Game Shutout Leads Trojans Over Easton
Senior right-handed pitcher Alex Flynn was in complete control on the mound today as he led the Parkland Trojans to a 2-0 victory over Easton. Flynn allowed only four Easton hitters to reach base (one of those reaching on a Trojan fielding error) as he pitched a complete game, two-hit shutout. Flynn had one hit-by-pitch, did not walk a batter, and had five strikeouts. Flynn picked a good day to shut down the opposition as the Trojan bats struggled for the second game in a row.
The Trojans only had four base hits today, but fortunately three of those hits came in the same inning. Jeff Strisovsky (1-for-2, BB, run) hit a one-out single to get things going in the bottom of the 1st inning. Chris Rabasco (1-for-3, double, RBI, run) doubled over the centerfielder's head to plate Strisovsky and give the Trojans a 1-0 lead. Zach Merkle (1-for-3, RBI) then delivered an RBI single to score Rabasco. The Trojans led 2-0 after one inning of play, but that would be it for the offense today, except for a 2nd inning single by Justin Afflerbach (1-for-2). The Trojans had an opportunity to score another run in the 4th inning when Merkle reached base on an error and advanced to second base on a Zach Miiller sacrifice bunt, but Merkle would be stranded on the bases. The two-run first inning for the Trojans would hold up for the victory as Flynn never let the Easton bats gain any momentum. Flynn retired ten batters in a row during the middle innings of the game until a Trojan fielding error ended that streak.
