Parkland Loses Third Straight Game

Posted by John Rabasco on Apr 23 2014 at 05:00PM PDT in 2019 Varsity

Bethlehem Catholic handed Parkland its third straight loss beating the Trojans by a score of 6-2.  Like they did the day before, the Trojans got off to a good first inning start.  The Trojans loaded the bases when Zach Merkle (1-for-3, HBP, run) led off the game with a single, Chris Rabasco reached base on a walk and Hudson Rabenold (1-for-2, HBP, BB) reached base when he was hit by a pitch.  Merkle scored to put the Trojans up 1-0 on an RBI fielder's choice hit by Zach Miiller.  Another walk, this time to Jeff Strisovsky (1-for-2, BB, RBI), loaded the bases again, but the inning would end with all three runners left on base.

Starting pitcher Gabe Mosser worked 1+ inning and left the game due to injury.  Mosser allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on one base hit and three walks, while striking out one.  Bethlehem Catholic tied the game at 1-1 after scoring a run in the bottom of the 1st inning.   Bethlehem Catholic went on to score three runs in the 2nd inning and take a 4-1 lead.  Parkland got one run back in the 3rd inning when Brad Vasilik (1-for-4) led off with a bunt single.  Walks to Rabenold and Miiller loaded the bases again.  An RBI fielder's choice hit by Strisovsky plated Rabasco, who had reached base on a fielder's choice, to put the score at 4-2.  Although the Trojans would load the bases yet again, this time in the 5th inning, they could not manage to score another run in the game.

Alex Flynn came on in relief of the injured Mosser in the 2nd inning and worked a total of three innings allowing three runs (1 earned) on six hits, one walk, and two strikeouts.  Rabasco pitched two scoreless innings of relief, working the final two innings of the game allowing two hits, no walks, and three strikeouts.
