JV Trojans Win 5-3 Over Central Catholic
The JV team improved to 11-2 on the season with a 5-3 win over Central Catholic. The Trojans posted a 4-run 4th inning to break a 1-1 tie, that proved to be the difference in the game. Starting pitcher AJ Palumbo recorded the win, allowing 2 runs in 5 innings pitched. Palumbo scattered 8 hits, striking out 1 while giving up 2 walks. Adam Mellinger closed out the game, throwing 2 innings in relief. Mellinger allowed 1 run on 3 hits and a walk to seal the 5-3 victory.
Central got on board first with a run in the top of the 2nd. The Trojans responded with a run in the bottom of the 3rd to tie the game 1-1. Colin Calpin (1 for 3, 2R, RBI) reached on error to lead off the inning. Calpin stole second and moved to third on a Scott Hudock (1 for 3, RBI) sacrifice bunt. Calpin then scored on a Nick Iannotta (1 for 3, RBI) ground ball to short.
Parkland's 4th inning rally was started with a Nate Markowicz (1 for 3, R) single. Markowicz moved to third on a Nick Stillittano (1 for 3, R) single and then scored on a single by Joey Bolick (2 for 3, R, RBI) for a 2-1 lead. Calpin singled to score Stillittano and a Hudock single and an overthrow at first scored Bolick and Calpin to give the Trojans a 5-1 lead. Central added a run in the 5th and 6th innings, but the Trojans shutdown the Vikings in the 7th for the 5-3 final.
