JV Trojans Hold Off Emmaus

Posted by Edward Brandt on Apr 12 2016 at 05:00PM PDT in 2019 Varsity

The JV squad got back on track with an exciting 12-10 victory over the hornets. Both teams were scoreless until the 3rd inning, when George Jenkins led off with a single. Adam Mellinger followed with a walk and consecutive HBP batters (Matt Ervolina, Will Algard) scored Jenkins. Ty Conrad singled scoring Mellinger and Ervolina. Two errant throws on Conrad’s steal attempt emptied the bases, as both he and Algard scored.

Starting pitcher Collin Duff and Julian Colon both worked walks as the inning continued but ended up stranded on base. Emmaus battled back, scoring four runs in the bottom half of the inning, narrowing the Trojans’ lead to 5-4. A two-out bases empty single from Algard sparked a five run 4th inning. Conrad reached with a walk and Duff singled. Justin Petrisko reached by error and Dylan Miller hit an RBI single. Colon walked and Jenkins followed with a 2RBI single to round out the scoring. Emmaus answered back again, this time scoring five runs of their own to keep the Trojan lead at just one run, 10-9. The Trojans added a lone run in the 5th after Ervolina led off the inning with a double and pinch-hitter Anderson Hummer hit the second double of the inning to drive him home.

The pesky hornets kept pace again, adding another run in the bottom of the inning to keep the margin at one, 11-10. Both teams were scoreless in the 6th inning but the Trojans added an insurance run in the top of the 7th when Algard walked and scored on a Joe Webber RBI single. The pitching duties were shared by Duff, Dylan Snyder, Phil Schoch, Mark Leiby, and Conrad.
