JV Trojans, Fracas, Defeat Central Catholic 5-1
In what began as a pitchers’ duel, the JV Trojans and the Vikings played three scoreless innings to begin the game. A lead-off walk followed by a stolen base and two sacrifices put the sole Viking run on the board in the top of the 4th inning.
The Trojans answered in the bottom of the 4th inning scoring two runs of their own after Adam Mellinger and Matt Ervolina led off with walks. Will Algard sacrificed, moving the runners to 2nd and 3rd with one out. An error on a ground ball from Ty Conrad plated both runners. Dylan Snyder singled and moved to second on a Viking error as Conrad stole 3rd. A lineout to the Viking 3rd baseman ended the inning with a double play, with the Trojans clinging to a 2-1.
Singles by Justin Petrisko, Dylan Miller, and George Jenkins loaded the bases to begin the bottom of the 5th inning. A one out single by Matt Ervolina scored both Petrisko and Miller. Algard singled to load the bases again and courtesy runner Joe Webber scored the third run of the inning on a Conrad sacrifice, increasing the Trojan lead to 5-1. Carson Fracas won the battle, pitching the complete game, allowing just two hits and two walks, striking out three.
