Trojans Derail Whitehall, Jenkins and Imler's Efforts Highlight Win

Posted by Kevin Roth on May 24 2016 at 05:00PM PDT in 2019 Varsity
Pitching, timely hitting, and defense are what all fans of baseball know is the recipe for success on the diamond. While Whitehall gave it their all, the Trojans were just too strong on this day as they excelled in all three phases of the game winning 7-3.

Mike Jenkins (6 1/3 inn, 8K, 3ER) took the mound and led the Trojans on to the next round of the District XI Playoffs. His performance on the hill and in the batter's box were outstanding.

While Jenkins deserves accolades his teammates played stellar ball behind him. Several tough defensive plays were made to look routine by the Trojans. Note worthy was Ethan Imler (1-2, BB, 2R, 2RBI) at third who both with a steady glove and accurate arm turned in one fine defensive play after another.

The Trojans second inning began with a line single by Kyle Friebolin (1-4) who exchanged places at first with Austin Mueller (2-4, R) who hit into a fielder's choice. Matt Mellinger (0-1, 2BB, 2R) walked and both he and Mueller were advanced to third by a hard hit infield out by Isaac Neal (0-3, R). Imler singled driving in the first two Trojans runs. A single by Jenkins and a walk to Andrew Roth (0-3, BB) loaded the bases. Cullan Wadsworth (2-4, RBI) then singled to drive in Imler and put the Trojans up 3-0.

The top of the third inning saw Mueller single and Mellinger reach on a fielder choice. With one out Neal hit a shot to short which was mishandled and gave the Trojans runners on first and second. Imler walked to load the bases. Jenkins (2-3, 2B, 3 RBI) came to the plate and drove a ball high off the centerfield wall for a double clearing the bases and driving in three Trojans. The Parkland faithful unknowingly witnessed Jenkins driving in the eventual winning run as the Trojans took a 6-0 lead.

A two out single by Mueller in the seventh led to the final Trojan run of the day. Christian "CK" Kinsley (0-0, R) ran for Mueller and advanced to third as both Mellinger and John Amato (0-0, BB) walked. Pinch hitter Nate Markowicz (0-0, BB, RBI) worked a third consecutive walk and drove in Kinsley to give the Trojans their seventh run of the game.

Braeden Duff (2/3 inn, 0 ER) closed out the game in the bottom of the seventh in his typical dominant fashion as the Trojans advance to the District XI Semi-final to be held at Lehigh University's Legacy Field.
