Trojans Triumph in Season Opener

Posted by Rich Kinsley on Mar 27 2018 at 05:00PM PDT in 2019 Varsity

The Trojans opened the season with a 2-1 victory over Bethlehem Catholic at the Trojan Sandlot on Wednesday in less than spring like conditions. They say spring is in the air when you hear the crack of the bat and the umpire yell "Play Ball", however, as those of us that live in the Northeast have come to understand spring temperatures and conditions often don't accompany the start of the High School season. Adam Smith got the nod from Coach Kurt Weber for the home opener and worked efficiently with battery mate George Jenkins spreading 6 K's over 5 innings while walking none and yielding just one run to the crew from BC which came in the top of the 4th inning.

For most of the chilly afternoon the Trojan bats matched the cold weather, however, after surrendering a run in the top of the frame the top of the Trojan lineup went on the offensive with back to back singles by Joseph Webber and CK Kinsley put runners on 1st and 2nd for Cullan Wadsworth. A passed ball moved the tandem into scoring position and Wadsworth plated them both with an rbi single to give the Trojans a 2-1 lead. The hitting was timely and required to secure the win as they were the only 3 hits the offense put up in the opener.

AJ Palumbo came on to work the 6th and the 7th for the Trojans and the defense backed his efforts as the Trojans secured the 2-1 win in the opener.
