Trojans top Emmaus on the road as offense heats up

Posted by Rich Kinsley on Apr 05 2018 at 05:00PM PDT in 2019 Varsity

The Trojans traveled to Church Lane to play Emmaus on Friday with Adam Smith getting the starting nod, and after taking the first 2 contests with timely hitting in key spots to win 1 run contests, on this day the Trojans and Hornets traded early jabs as the Trojans came to the plate in the Top of the 3rd tied 1-1. CK Kinsley led off the inning with a solo HR to RCF to stake the Trojans to a 2-1 lead from which they never looked back as the offense heated up. Cullan Wadsworth then followed with a double advancing to third on a PB, Dylan miller walked and then Wadsworth scored making it 3-1 on a Adam Mellinger Sac Fly to RF. In the Bot 3 Emmaus got runners on 1st and 2nd but they were strand by an Adam Smith K and the Trojan defense held. The Trojans then went down in order in the Top of the 4th and Adam Smith fanned 2 in the bottom half of the 4th and after 4 the score remained 3-1.
In the Top of the 5th the Trojan Offense rewarded all of the fans that travel to see them play on the road by posting 14 runs in an inning that was amzingly fun to watch as a Trojan fan and most likely heartwrenching if you cheer for the boys in green and yellow. Hit after hit led to run after run. Normally that type of run output in a game let alone an inning means that there was a lack of command by the opposing pitchers but in this case it was all Trojan hitting as only 3 walks were given out by Emmaus pitching in the inning (Will Algard, Cullan Wadsworth and Hani Kitabwalla) hits for the inning: singles (Joseph Webber(2), CK Kinsley (2), Adam Mellinger, Matthew Ervolina(2), Jared Kuharchuck, Adam Smith, Austin Imler, Ethan Russel, Gabe Stay. Doubles: Cullan Wadsorth, Dylan Miller to tally a total of 14 runs.
Adam Smith settled in after yielding an early run to Emmaus and scattered 6 hits over 4 innings with 6 K's. Koby Staivecki came in to pitch the Bot of 5th and was backed by an Ervolina to Jeremy Piatkiewicz to Hani Kitabwalla double play and fittingly the last out of the contest was recorded with an Adam Mellinger web gem catch in RF to end the game securing the Trojan Victory 17-1 over Emmaus.
