Trojan JV continues run of dominant pitching as offense stays hot

Posted by Rich Kinsley on May 01 2018 at 05:00PM PDT in 2019 Varsity
The Trojan JV team has been scoring a lot of runs and having some great pitching for the 2nd half of the year. They had the 5th game of at least 10 runs in their last 6 games with a 10 to 0 shutout against Nazareth. In those 5 games, they have only given up 3 runs. Today was Josh Miiller’s turn to make an impact as he pitched a complete game 5 inning shutout while only giving up 2 singles. With Josh’s control and good defense behind him, Parkland was able to take command by getting 13 hits. Chris Lessel started the game off with a beautiful bunt for a single in the first and Josh Miiller drove him home with a line drive single later in the inning. Josh had 2 hits and 2 rbi’s to complement his effective pitching. In the 2nd inning, singles by TJ Khela and Jack Giovenco followed by a sacrifice bunt by Owen Lehr brought to the plate Chris Lessel, who then knocked in a run with one of his 3 hits. It was a team effort that helped produce this win during another perfect weather day at Parkland Stadium. Parker Swartz had his typical game with a single and 2 walks, Drew Sorrentino came through in the clutch with a single to right center knocking in 2 and Khela and Giovenco got singles later in the contest. Bryce Ratliff flared a single into right field in the 5th in the inning that the Trojans scored 4 runs. Owen Lehr grounded to short to bring in the 10th and final run. Josh Miiller was really effective and when one of your top pitchers is giving up minimal base runners, the confidence is high for the team as they know a few runs should win the game. With 10 runs from the total team effort, the up and coming team is hoping to finish their last 5 games strong. image
