Season Ends with Tough Loss to PME in District XI Quarterfinal

Posted by John Rabasco on May 24 2012 at 05:00PM PDT in 2019 Varsity

After waiting all week for rains to end in order to play their District XI quarterfinal game, the Parkland Trojans season ended tonight at the hands of Pocono Mountain East by a score of 6-4.  After 3+ innings of play today with no score, the clouds opened again dumping more rain onto the field.  After a nearly 3 hour delay in order to get the field back into playing shape, PME took a 3-0 lead in the top of the 6th with a couple of big hits after a Parkland error and taking advantage of difficult field conditions that included a drifting fog over the field.  In the bottom of the 6th, the Trojans loaded the bases with a walk, error and single by Jacob Rosenblatt (1-for-3 R, BB).  Zach Merkle (2-for-4, R, RBI) then drove in Parkland's first run with a single.  Pinch hitter Brian Zesch (1-for-1, RBI) singled in a run to make the score 3-2.  With the bases still loaded, Nick Rabasco (1-for-4, 2 RBI) singled in two runs to give Parkland the 4-3 lead heading into the 7th innning.  Starting pitcher Matt Hurd worked 4 innings prior to the rain delay and came out to pitch again when play resumed and pitched a total of 6 innings with 8 strikeouts.  Relief pitchers Tyler Duff and Chris Rabasco (1-for-3, BB) worked the 7th, but a leadoff double by PME started the downfall for the Trojans that saw four Parkland errors and another base hit in the inning to give PME a 6-4 lead.  The Trojans put the tying runs on second and third base with one out in the bottom of the 7th, but that is where they would stay and PME went on to win 6-4.   Other Parkland hits came off the bats of Damin Muth (1-for-3, BB), Tyler Graeff (1-for-4, double, R), and Cody Callahan (1-for-3).
