Parkland Ends Regular Season with 11-3 Win Over Whitehall; LVC Playoffs Up Next

Posted by John Rabasco on May 11 2011 at 05:00PM PDT in 2019 Varsity

The Parkland Trojans ended their regular season schedule with an 11-3 win over visiting Whitehall, finishing with an LVC conference record of 11-3 and overall record of 16-4.  Junior pitcher Matt Hurd worked five strong innings, scattering 6 hits and striking out three.  Junior Adam Fye pitched the final two innings in dominant fashion, striking out four.  Parkland batters were led by Senior Dan Shaw (2-3, two 2B, 4 RBI) who doubled twice, including a bases loaded clearing double and Senior Ryan Sutovich (2-4, 2B, RBI).   Senior Derek Freibolin added two hits and an RBI and Senior Ben Breiner doubled and had an RBI.  Damin Muth, Nick Rabasco, DC Castillo, and Joe Hudock each added singles.  Tyler Graeff had two RBI.  Castillo made an amazing running catch on a flyball hit to the center field warning track.

JV team drops finale vs Whitehall:  The Trojan JV's traveled to Whitehall to play their final game and they took an early 1-0 lead, but by the 2nd inning Whitehall had tied it up 2-2.  Pitcher Tyler Duff  threw a solid 5 innings and Jordan Jones pitched the 6th inning. Whitehall pitchers kept Parkland batters off balance and from having that big inning that has seemingly occurred each game.  Entering the 7th inning Parkland found themselves down 5-3.   Jones got a leadoff hit and came around to score to cut Whitehall's lead to 5-4.  However, a double play on a hit-and-run ended the rally and the Trojans lost 5-4.  The Trojan JV's finished the season with an 11-7 record, but they started the season going 0-5 and responded strongly with an 11 game winning streak, playing some awesome baseball, good pitching, lots of hitting and a defense that played great. Losing the last two games by a total of 3 runs only showed that the last 13 games of the season were a strong indication of how good the team played. The camaraderie that was evident during some memorable comebacks against Freedom and Easton put a stamp on a close knit team that not only enjoyed the game, but each other and the coaches. A big thanks to coaches Henry, Redmond, Cope and Moyer in helping turn this group into a "team". Good luck to all the players in the off season and next year.
