JV Trojans heat up in cold temperatures take down ACC

There’s nothing like watching your favorite team have their first big offensive game with temperatures more suited for a January outdoor football game than the 5th game of this young baseball season. With snow flakes appearing just before the first pitch and the windchill in the 30’s, the JV squad didn’t care as the team was ready to get on the winning track. Pitchers Junel Rodriquez and Nick Ernst kept the Viking bats silenced as only a leadoff infield single in the first was the only hit given up. Rodriquez and Ernst pitched well during a day when the team was thankful that the defensive innings in the field were short. The offense exploded for 12 runs during this 5 inning mercy win. Parkland took a 4 to 0 lead in the top of the first after a Chris Lessel HBP (1 for 2 with 2 HPB and 1R scored) and a Nikhil Patel HPB (1 for 2 with 2R Scored), followed by a double down the right field line by clean up hitter, Josh Miiller (2 for 2 with 3 R scored). Drew Sorrentino then hit a deep shot to left centerfield plating Miiller. Jon Maner then singled home Sorrentino and Parkland would have all the runs they would need. Catcher Jack Giovenco led off the 2nd inning with a triple to right centerfield. Jack eventually scored on a wild pitch. With a 6 to run lead in the 4th, 4 straight batters got on base through hits or hit by pitches and then Joe Algard came to the plate. Joe, already having a quality at bat by working a full count with 7 total pitches took the next pitch by the Viking hurler deep over the left fielder’s head clearing the bases with a double. In the 5th inning, walks to TJ Khela (3 runs scored) and Kevin Santos led to an rbi single by Nick Ernst and a rbi fly out by Owen Lehr to finish the scoring. It will be nice to play some games in springlike temperatures, but as long as the Trojan bats stay hot, it will make the long winter bearable.
