Parkland Falls to Northampton, 2-1

Posted by John Rabasco on May 09 2011 at 05:00PM PDT in 2019 Varsity

In the second of two games today, the Parkland Trojans found themselves in a pitchers duel between Dan Shaw and Northampton's Kyle Farnholtz.  Parkland batters only managed three hits from Tyler Graeff (2 singles) and Damin Muth (double), otherwise it was a frustrating night at the plate with numerous ground outs.  Parkland scored its lone run in the first inning due to Northampton errors.  Dan Shaw pitched well the entire game and took a 1-1 tie into the 6th inning where Northampton managed to score the go-ahead run on a Parkland error and an infield single.  The Trojans play their final regular season game on Thursday against Whitehall with an LVC playoff berth on the line.

JV win streak halted at 11 games:  The Trojans took on Northampton, looking to avenge a loss earlier in the season.  Adam Schneck pitched 5 strong innings and the Trojans appeared to be cruising to another win.  Hot bats by Tim Baranek, Nate Case and Jake Gottwald helped lead the team to an 8-2 lead.  In the 6th inning, the Northampton bats came alive and they scored 8 runs to take a 10-8 lead.  The Trojans responded with a big bottom of the 6th to retake the lead, 13-10.  A combination of hits, errors and miscues by the Trojans in the 7th allowed Northampton another big inning and the lead, 17-13. The Trojans never say die attitude brought a rally at the bottom of the 7th, scoring two runs and the winning run was at the plate when Northampton retired the last Parkland batter on a strikeout.  Baranek (3B, 2-1B), Gottwald (2-1B), Case (3-1B), Jones (2-1B) led the team with multiple hits in the game. The Trojans great streak of 11 games came to an end with a wild 17-15 loss.
