Trojan Victory over Zephyrs at Coca Cola Park
On Sunday, what was arguably the best weather for baseball so far this spring the Trojans travelled to Coca Cola Park in Allentown for their matchup with the Zephyrs from Whitehall. As the away team for the contest the Trojans Joseph Webber led off wth single and adv to 2nd on a CK Kinsley fielders choice, Cullan Wadsworth walked & Dylan Miller reached base on a fielders choice to load the bases. However, the Trojans were unable to push a run across in the Top of the 1st Adam Smith took the mound with sun high in the sky as battery mate Geroge Jenkins crouched down behind the plate with temperatures around 70 degrees on a beautiful day to play at a Minor League Stadium. Smith & Jenkins worked effectively once again scattering 5 hits, 1 earned run and striking out 5 over 6 innings of work. The Trojans took control of the game in the Top of the 2nd when Jeremy Piatkiewicz led off with a single & George Jenkins reached after being H BP & Jared Kuharchuck came in to pinch run for Jenkins. CK Kinsley then singled home the first run of the day scoring Piatkiewicz with Kuharchuck adv to 3rd and Kinsley to 2nd on the throw. Trojan Fans were treated to a 15-0 four inning victory over the Canaries from William Allen and a game shortened combined NO HITTER Wednesday at the Trojan Sandlot. AJ Palumbo got the start along with battery mate George Jenkins and worked the first three innings of the contest with Jeremy Piatkiewicz coming in to work the Top of the 4th as the pair combined on the NoNo. That makes it back to back NoNo’s for the Trojan Staff. Palumbo notched 3 K’s in 3 innings of work with Piatkiewicz fanning a batter in his inning of work also. As the score would indicate the Trojan Offense came out swinging and met with success; immediately staking Palumbo to a 10-0 lead after the Trojans first round AB’s in the bottom of the first. Over 4 innings the Trojan Offense rang up 9 Hits, 6 Walks to tally the 15 run onslaught vs the Canaries. Joe Webber led off the bottom of the 1st with a walk followed by a CK Kinsley single, both runners advanced after a pitch in the dirt and Cullan Wadsworth then loaded the bases after being HBP. Trojan treats Fans to NoNo & Trojans Walk it Off Again
Seeing snowflakes during pre-game BP and during infield/outfield warmups is never what a fan hopes for when they arrive at the ballpark during Baseball season, however, that was the case tonight as the game time temperature was about 40 degrees at first pitch for this one at the Trojan Sandlot. Fortunately the Trojans starting pitcher Adam Smith did not let the conditions affect his command and was on fire while working efficiently with battery mate George Jenkins to strike out 9 Vikings against 3 walks giving up 0 earned runs and 0 HITS over 7 innings for a NO HITTER! The lone Viking run crossed the plate in the first inning after the lead off batter walked stole second then third and scoring on an error. Smith seemed to get stronger as the game went on and showed excellent command of his arsenal inducing weak contact for most of the evening. The lone true threat to break up the NoNo Smith was spinning came in the Top of the 6th when the lead off batter seemingly stroked the ball though the hole between 1st & 2nd when CK Kinsley dove gloved the ball on the lip of the outfield grass and fired to first for the out preserving the NoNo for Smith though 6 innings of play. Adam Smith then made sure that there were no balls put in play in the Top of the 7th striking out the side to cap what the Trojan offense would ensure to be a NoNo in the Bot of the 7th.
The Trojan Offense was not quite as cold as the weather on this night, they were once again timely. The Vikings actually held the lead 1-0 until the Bot 3 when Adam Mellinger reached on an error and advanced to second, he then scored on a Will Algard single to tie it at 1-1. Offensively Will Algard (3 singles) Joseph Webber and Dylan Miller provided all of the Trojans 5 hits in this contest. The stage was set in the Bot 7 for another walk off win when Will Algard led off with a single, and with heads up base running advanced to 3rd on a sac bunt from Matthew Ervolina and with Algard on third Jeremy Piatkiewicz hit a ball to short that was misplayed while Algard scored making it 2-1 and securing the third Trojan walk off win of this young season.
