Posted by Rich Kinsley at Apr 21, 2018 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

On Sunday, what was arguably the best weather for baseball so far this spring the Trojans travelled to Coca Cola Park in Allentown for their matchup with the Zephyrs from Whitehall. As the away team for the contest the Trojans Joseph Webber led off wth single and adv to 2nd on a CK Kinsley fielders choice, Cullan Wadsworth walked & Dylan Miller reached base on a fielders choice to load the bases. However, the Trojans were unable to push a run across in the Top of the 1st Adam Smith took the mound with sun high in the sky as battery mate Geroge Jenkins crouched down behind the plate with temperatures around 70 degrees on a beautiful day to play at a Minor League Stadium. Smith & Jenkins worked effectively once again scattering 5 hits, 1 earned run and striking out 5 over 6 innings of work. The Trojans took control of the game in the Top of the 2nd when Jeremy Piatkiewicz led off with a single & George Jenkins reached after being H BP & Jared Kuharchuck came in to pinch run for Jenkins. CK Kinsley then singled home the first run of the day scoring Piatkiewicz with Kuharchuck adv to 3rd and Kinsley to 2nd on the throw. Cullan Wadsorth then tripled home the pair to make it a 3-0 Trojan lead. The Zephyrs managed to plate a run in the Bot of the 1st to make it a 3-1 score. The Trojans immediately got that run back in the Top of the 3rd after Adam Mellinger walked and Will Algard ROE with Mellinger hustling to 3rd on the play, Jeremy Piatkiewicz the single home Mellinger making it a 4-1 lead. Adam Smith then fanned 2 as the Trojans retired the side in order in the Bot of the 3rd. Joseph Webber reached base after being HBP in the Top 4 and stole 2nd but was LOB. The Zephyrs got traffic on the bases in the Bot 4 but Smith & the Trojans only allowed a run to cross the plate and the score was 4-2 after 4 innings of play.

In the Top of 5 Will Algard singled and Jeremy Piatkiewicz BB but the pair were LOB. In the bottom of the frame Smith and the Trojans worked around traffic on the bases and held the score at 4-2 after 5. In the Top of the 6th CK Kinsley ROE & advancing to 2nd then advanced to 3rd as Cullan Wadsworth reached first on a dropped third strike. Wadsorth then took 2nd uncontested and Dylan Miller BB to load the bases. Adam Mellinger then singled scoring Kinsley and Wadsworth and pushing the Trojan lead to 4 at 6-2. Miller then advanced to 3rd on a Will Algard SacFly, with Mellinger advancing to 2nd on a ball in the dirt. Jeremy Piatkiewicz then BB to load the bases and the inning ended with the Trojans leading 6-2. In the Bot of the 6th Adam Smith and the Trojans worked around a runner as Smith struck out 2. In the Top 7 CK Kinsley singled and Cullan Wadsworth walked but the pair were LOB. Koby Staivecki came on for the Bot of the 7th and with traffic on the bases Staivecki and the Trojans only allowed a run to cross the plate and another Trojan Victory in hand 6-3.

JV Trojans beat Whitehall

Posted by Rich Kinsley at Apr 19, 2018 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Josh Miiller led the way for Parkland as he pitched a complete game shutout against arch rival Whitehall. Josh pitched 5 innings in the mercy rule game where Parkland put up 10 runs to continue their high scoring ways during their 3 game winning streak. Josh also drove in the first run in the bottom of the first as he hit a flare to right center that saw Parker Swartz (1 hit down the line and 2 bases on balls) score. In the 3rd inning, hitting star TJ Khela (hit a scorcher up the middle with 2 outs driving in 2 runs making the score 3 to 0. Jon Maner (1 for 2) and Josh and Nikhil were all on base when TJ got his clutch hit. TJ’s 2 rbi’s were just the start of the big game for him as he was able to come through in the 4th as well with another 2 run single making him 2 for 2 with an additional walk. In the 4th inning, Jack Giovenco had a great inning as he had 2 hits in the inning, including a 2 run single. The 2 hits combined with his catching duties where he threw out a runner shows what an impact he can make. The Trojan 9 were able to knock the Whitehall pitcher out of the game with hits by Chris Lessel, Swartz and a hard hit by Nikhil Patel that seemed to surprise the second basemen. A line drive single by Drew Sorrentino, a walk to Owen Lehr and then the TJ Khela single was all the Trojans needed if they could just hold Whitehall in the 5th. Josh Miiller kept throwing strikes and only let 2 batters get hits for the Zephyrs. In this game of strong pitching and timely offense, the game would not be over until the versatile Joe Algard put his stamp on the game by running down a twisting line drive by the lefty hitter from Whitehall. Joe dazzled the crowd with the amount of outfield he covered while stretching his left arm out to make the final out in the left centerfield gap to help win the game and stop it from going any extended innings. The catch was one to make a parent proud! With the 10 to 0 win, the team is starting to find its rhythm as they are now 4 and 3 with several competitive games on the schedule for the next 2 weeks.

Trojan Fans were treated to a 15-0 four inning victory over the Canaries from William Allen and a game shortened combined NO HITTER Wednesday at the Trojan Sandlot. AJ Palumbo got the start along with battery mate George Jenkins and worked the first three innings of the contest with Jeremy Piatkiewicz coming in to work the Top of the 4th as the pair combined on the NoNo. That makes it back to back NoNo’s for the Trojan Staff. Palumbo notched 3 K’s in 3 innings of work with Piatkiewicz fanning a batter in his inning of work also. As the score would indicate the Trojan Offense came out swinging and met with success; immediately staking Palumbo to a 10-0 lead after the Trojans first round AB’s in the bottom of the first. Over 4 innings the Trojan Offense rang up 9 Hits, 6 Walks to tally the 15 run onslaught vs the Canaries. Joe Webber led off the bottom of the 1st with a walk followed by a CK Kinsley single, both runners advanced after a pitch in the dirt and Cullan Wadsworth then loaded the bases after being HBP. Dylan Miller then walked scoring Webber for the first run of many. Will Algard then singled home CK Kinsley to make the score 2-0 followed by an Ethan Russell walk which plated Wadsworth to make the score 3-0. Jeremy Piatkiewicz then hit into a FC followed by a Jared Kuharchuck double (adv to 3rd on the throw) driving in Algard, Russell & Piatkiewicz to make it a 6-0 Trojan lead. George Jenkins then reached 1st on catchers interference, a Joe Webber single scored Kuharchuck to make it 7-0. CK Kinsley then hit into a fielders choice with Webber ending up on 2nd and CK safe at first. Cullan Wadsworth then doubled scoring Webber from 2nd and Kinsley from 1st to make it a 9-0 lead. Dylan Miller then singled scoring Wadsworth to cap off the 10 run first inning.

In the bottom of the 2nd the Trojans put to more on the scoreboard to push the lead to 12-0 after Ethan Russell walked & advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch then moving to 3rd on a Piatkiewicz ground out. Kuharchuck then reached base on a fielders choice followed by Austin Imler reaching on a HBP. Collin Duff then drove the pair in with a double to make it a 12-0 Trojan lead after 2 innings of play. In the bottom of the 3rd both Gabe Stay and Phil Schoch reached base via walks but were left on base. In the Top of the 4th with Austin Imler doing the catching Jeremey Piatkiewicz retired the side in order while fanning a batter. The final 3 Trojan runs to end the game came in the bottom of the 4th after Jared Kuharchuck singled & advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch, Austin Imler and Collin Duff were then hit in the helmet by pitches to load the bases. And the game was then over after Kuharchuck, Imler and Duff all scored on separate wild pitches securing the 15-0 Trojan Victory after 4 innings of play.

Luke Dauberman ( 5k and 1ER) pitched a great 5 innings, but some early team miscues gave Allen a 2 to 0 lead through 3 innings. Parkland was the visiting team even they we were playing on the JV Home field. In the top of the 4th, the Trojans got 6 runs and finally got to the Allen starting pitcher. After Dean Scott got on base (1 single and 1 run scored), Kevin Santos hit a nice line drive to center field for a double and Junel Rodriquez walked to load the bases. Up to bat came catcher, Jake Donmoyer. With many family members watching, Jake drilled a shot deep down the left field line knocking in 2 runners. Dauberman, who scored 3 runs had a walk to load the bases. Back to back bases loaded walks to Owen Lehr and Nick Ernst (1 for 2 with 2 rbi) made it 4 to 2 and then when Parker Swartz (3 for 5 with 3 rbi’s) and Dean Scott got singles to knock in runs to get the team to a 1/2 dozen lead. The momentum started to build in the 5th when Owen Lehr (1 for 3, 4 rbi’s) hit a line drive double down the left field line for 2 rbi’s and then Parker Swartz knocked him in with a single. Bases load walk rbi’s to Owen Lehr and Nick Ernst in the 6th and a Swartz single finished the scoring for the Trojan JV team as Santos and Ratliff (1 for 2) and Dauberman (hbp) all scored. In the last inning, Owen Lehr came in a struck out 2 for a scoreless 6th and Parkland is now on a modest 2 game winning streak.

Seeing snowflakes during pre-game BP and during infield/outfield warmups is never what a fan hopes for when they arrive at the ballpark during Baseball season, however, that was the case tonight as the game time temperature was about 40 degrees at first pitch for this one at the Trojan Sandlot. Fortunately the Trojans starting pitcher Adam Smith did not let the conditions affect his command and was on fire while working efficiently with battery mate George Jenkins to strike out 9 Vikings against 3 walks giving up 0 earned runs and 0 HITS over 7 innings for a NO HITTER! The lone Viking run crossed the plate in the first inning after the lead off batter walked stole second then third and scoring on an error. Smith seemed to get stronger as the game went on and showed excellent command of his arsenal inducing weak contact for most of the evening. The lone true threat to break up the NoNo Smith was spinning came in the Top of the 6th when the lead off batter seemingly stroked the ball though the hole between 1st & 2nd when CK Kinsley dove gloved the ball on the lip of the outfield grass and fired to first for the out preserving the NoNo for Smith though 6 innings of play. Adam Smith then made sure that there were no balls put in play in the Top of the 7th striking out the side to cap what the Trojan offense would ensure to be a NoNo in the Bot of the 7th.

The Trojan Offense was not quite as cold as the weather on this night, they were once again timely. The Vikings actually held the lead 1-0 until the Bot 3 when Adam Mellinger reached on an error and advanced to second, he then scored on a Will Algard single to tie it at 1-1. Offensively Will Algard (3 singles) Joseph Webber and Dylan Miller provided all of the Trojans 5 hits in this contest. The stage was set in the Bot 7 for another walk off win when Will Algard led off with a single, and with heads up base running advanced to 3rd on a sac bunt from Matthew Ervolina and with Algard on third Jeremy Piatkiewicz hit a ball to short that was misplayed while Algard scored making it 2-1 and securing the third Trojan walk off win of this young season.
