News and Announcements

There’s nothing like watching your favorite team have their first big offensive game with temperatures more suited for a January outdoor football game than the 5th game of this young baseball season. With snow flakes appearing just before the first pitch and the windchill in the 30’s, the JV squad didn’t care as the team was ready to get on the winning track. Pitchers Junel Rodriquez and Nick Ernst kept the Viking bats silenced as only a leadoff infield single in the first was the only hit given up. Rodriquez and Ernst pitched well during a day when the team was thankful that the defensive innings in the field were short. The offense exploded for 12 runs during this 5 inning mercy win. Parkland took a 4 to 0 lead in the top of the first after a Chris Lessel HBP (1 for 2 with 2 HPB and 1R scored) and a Nikhil Patel HPB (1 for 2 with 2R Scored), followed by a double down the right field line by clean up hitter, Josh Miiller (2 for 2 with 3 R scored). Drew Sorrentino then hit a deep shot to left centerfield plating Miiller. Jon Maner then singled home Sorrentino and Parkland would have all the runs they would need. Catcher Jack Giovenco led off the 2nd inning with a triple to right centerfield. Jack eventually scored on a wild pitch. With a 6 to run lead in the 4th, 4 straight batters got on base through hits or hit by pitches and then Joe Algard came to the plate. Joe, already having a quality at bat by working a full count with 7 total pitches took the next pitch by the Viking hurler deep over the left fielder’s head clearing the bases with a double. In the 5th inning, walks to TJ Khela (3 runs scored) and Kevin Santos led to an rbi single by Nick Ernst and a rbi fly out by Owen Lehr to finish the scoring. It will be nice to play some games in springlike temperatures, but as long as the Trojan bats stay hot, it will make the long winter bearable.
On what many considered the most perfect day of the year, with sunny skies and 85 degree temperatures, the Trojan JV Bats were not as hot as the weather. Playing on the JV home field, the game sped quickly along with quick innings for both of the teams. The experienced North Penn squad had pitchers that were consistently throwing strikes and that turned out to be the difference in the game. With no walks given up and only 3 hits for the Trojan JV Team, it was difficult to build any momentum in any inning. The pitching duo of Drew Sorrentino and TJ Khela pitched pitched well, accumulating 12 strike outs between them, but the lack of any real offense behind them made this a difficult game to get the come from behind win. Only singles by designated hitter Kevin Santos and Bryce Ratliff were the first 2 hits for the team. In the final inning, the team tried to rally after Jon Maner hit a crushing drive to deep left center enabling him to get to 3rd on his first triple of the year. Nick Ernst then hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield which delivered the one and only run for the Trojans. The final score was North Penn 4…..Parkland 1. With 5 games in 6 days next week, the JV Squad will be motivated to develop a nice winning streak going into the final weeks of the season.

The sun was out on Saturday at The Trojan Sandlot as game time temp was over 80 degrees and it actually felt like baseball weather. With the wind blowing out and the sun beating down the Trojan faithful were treated to a game in which the Home Team missed the extra point but still walked away with a 13-12 victory over perennial powerhouse and a previously unbeaten North Penn squad on a walk off hit in the bottom of the 7th by Jeremy Piatkiewicz. As the score indicates it was a wild one with a couple of lead changes and a lot of traffic on the bases for both teams. CK Kinsley got the nod for the start and took the hill for the Trojans with Ethan Russell behind the plate. Kinsley scattered 10 hits & 6 runs over 4 innings with 5 strikeouts to 1 walk and left the game after 4 with the Trojans leading 9-6. On in relief for the Trojans was Adam Mellinger (1) Collin Duff (1) and Alex Oliver who came on with the score tied 12-12 for the Top of the 7th after Duff was tagged in the ankle by a line drive hit back up the box. Alex Oliver set down the side in order striking out all three batters.

The Trojan Offense got started in the Bot 2 when Jeremy Piatkiewicz lead off with a double and advanced to 3rd on a CK Kinsley single to CF. Joseph Webber stole 2nd as a courtesy runner for Kinsley and Piatkiewicz then scored on a Dylan Miller fielders choice and the Trojans and NPenn were tied at 1 after 1 inning of play. NPenn was able to plate a few more runs in the Top of the 2nd to push the lead to 4-1but in the bottom half of the frame Hani Kitabwalla waled took second on a pitch in the dirt and 3rd on a wild pitch and Ethan Russell then singled him home to close the deficit to 4-2. Russell then took 2nd before Austin Imler came in to pinch run and advanced to 3rd on a ball in the dirt before scoring on a CK Kinsley single to make the score 4-3. Cullan Wadsworth then walked but was LOB. In the Top 3 CK Kinsley fanned 2 batters, however, NPenn pushed across another run to move the lead to 5-3. In the Bot 3 Adam Mellinger led off with a walk followed by a Hani Kitabwalla single & Alex Oliver reaching on a while Adam Mellinger scored to make the score 5-4, as Kitabwalla & Oliver advanced to 3rd & 2nd respectively. CK Kinsley then singled home Kitabwalla to tie the game at 5-5. NPenn then added another run in the Top of the 4th.

The Trojans stormed back and captured the lead in the Bot $ when Dylan Miller led off with a single and Adam Mellinger & Hani Kitabwalla walked to load the bases, an Alex Oliver walk then scored Miller to tie the score at 6-6 and then Mellinger scored on a wild pitch to make the score 7-6 with Kitabwalla and Oliver advancing to 2nd and 3rd and then scoring as CK Kinsley hit a shot to third that came off the lip hitting the third baseman in the lip as Kitabwalla and Oliver scored making it a 9-6 Trojan lead after 4 innings of play. The Top of the 5th saw Adam Mellinger take the mound for the Trojans with NPenn pushing across a pair of runs to make the score 9-8. In the Bot 5 Adam Mellinger was the lone Trojan on the bases after reaching 3rd on an error on a flyball to RF but was LOB. Adam Mellinger was back out to start the 6th, as NPenn plated another pair of runs pushing their lead to 10-9. Collin Duff then came on in relief for Mellinger with a runner on 2nd and no outs as NPenn was able to push across 2 runs to take a 12-9 lead.

The Trojans mounted another rally to tie the score in the Bot 6 when Ethan Russell ROE and Will Algard and CK Kinsley singles loaded the bases. A Cullan Wadsworth fielders choice plated Russell to make the score 12-10 and then Dylan Miller ROE with Will Algard and CK Kinsley scoring on the play to tie the score at 12-12. Alex Oliver took the mound to start the 7th and promptly quieted the bats from North Penn striking out the side and holding the score at 12-12. In the bottom of the 7th the Trojans received their second walk off hit of the season after Hani Kitabwalla walked and advanced to third on a pickoff attempt, Ethan Russell walked and Austin Imler came in to pinch run for him advancing to 2nd on a ball in the dirt. All of this setting the stage with runners on 2nd & 3rd for Jeremy Piatkiewicz to end the game with a walk off single to CF scoring Kitabwalla and securing another Trojan Victory 13-12.

Trojans travelled to Bethlehem to take on Liberty. Adam Smith, Koby Staivecki and Phil Schoch worked from the mound scattering 11 hits, 4 walks and six earned runs. The Trojan Offense had 4 hits, Will Algard and Joseph Webber (Doubles) Dylan Miller (Single) and Cullan Wadsworth hit a HR to RF in the Top of the 7th. Wadsworth, Ervolina, Algard (2) all worked free pases. Trojans dropped their first game of the season to Liberty 8-2.

Whereas the first 4 games of the season saw a Trojan Offense that got the big hit when needed, on this day in Bethlehem the offense failed to take advantage of its opportunities and the defense had 3 errors at inopportune times all of which will cause the best of teams to lose.

The Scheduling Gods were not kind to the Trojan 9 as they faced another top opponent on Thursday Night at Parkland’s Home Field against Liberty. With springtime temperatures finally in the air and with a delayed 6pm start, the crowd was larger than normal. Liberty was able to take an early lead with some timely 2 out hitting and some tough to handle hits. After one inning of play, Liberty had a 3 to 0 lead. The Trojan JV Bats took a while to get started as Liberty had a hard throwing pitcher who was able to hit the expanded corners that the umpire had provided. T hey didn’t get their first hit until 2 outs in the 2nd inning when catcher Jack Giovenco took a 2 strike fastball and sent it right back past the pitcher into centerfield. In the 3rd inning of play, after Chris Lessel got on base with a walk, he eventually reached 3rd with 2 outs where a timely hit by Nikhil Patel drove him home. Josh Miiller, who started on the mound began to gain some steam as he had retired 8 batters in a row, but the bottom of the ‘Canes lineup was able to hit balls just out of the reach of the Parkland defense, thus increasing the score to 4 to 1. Josh pitched an effective 5th inning to end his night on the mound. The defensive play of the game for Parkland was a nice backhand by shortstop Parker Swartz who threw across the diamond, where TJ Khela made a beautiful scoop to end the inning. Freshmen hurlers Joe Algard and Owen Lehr showed some success with good velocity and hitting the spots, but some timely and well located hits had the Liberty JV squad with a 6 to 2 lead going into the bottom of the 7th. Josh Miiller had a deep line drive to left field knocking in the 2nd run so with the Trojan squad finally starting to make good contact, it looked like a big comeback was in the works in the final inning of play. Luke Dauberman was hit by pitch which brought up Owen Lehr, who promptly hit a line drive single to left field. After a fielders choice, with runners on first and third, Nick Ernst hit a shot that travelled deep into the left centerfield alley enabling the fleet footed Lessel to score from first making the score 6 to 4. The Trojan 9 were not able to get any more after that and Liberty pulled out the win.
